Frequently asked questions
Do I have to have an account to order?
Yes. It makes things easier for us (we can have your delivery address right, for example) and for you (you can manage your details and check your orders). If you do not have an account, you will be invited to create one at the beginning of the checkout process: you will need an email address and a password.
Where do you deliver?
Locally, for a start. Presently, we focus on deliveries within the east of Fife: postcodes starting with KY1, KY2, KY5, KY6, KY7, KY8, KY9, KY10, KY14, KY15, KY16 and DD6.
How much in advance can I order?
You can only place an order during the week (before Sunday at midnight) and be delivered during the following week. We choose to do so because we want to provide you with the best fresh shellfish straight from the boat and not with frozen shellfish. The other reason is that shellfish availability depends very much on weather at sea (fishermen have a hard enough job for not to risk their lives fishing by a raging sea!) which tends to be slightly unpredictable… but strongly Scottish! What if the products I ordered are finally not available?
We will do our best to forecast sea conditions and shellfish availability one week ahead. However it could happen sometimes that a storm occurs that has not been forecasted. If shellfish are then unavailable for the order you have already placed, we will inform you and refund you if you have already paid.
When will I be delivered?
On a fixed delivery day, which you can choose during checkout. For a start, we will only offer Thursday as a delivery day.
How fresh will my order be?
The freshest! We aim to deliver your shellfish within 24h of them being landed. The shellfish you ordered during the week will be caught and landed the following week: the very morning of the delivery day (for langoustines) or the evening before (for lobsters and crabs).
How will my order be packed?
In a Polypropylene box, which is a kind of plastic more easily recyclable than Polystyrene. Orders will be packed in a single box when possible (although big orders might need more than one box), closing with a lid, labelled with the content and quantities. Inside the box all your shellfish will be placed on ice, for maximum freshness.
What if I’m not home?
We leave your box in a safe place: in your front porch, your rear garden, at your neighbour… you tell us during checkout. The insulated box and the ice ensure that your order can wait until you come back home later in the day (the box can keep your order fresh for up to 5 hours).
Are there any delivery fees?
Yes: for each order a delivery fee of £2 applies, whatever the number of the boxes in the order.
Can I come and pick up my order instead?
Yes: if you did choose the right option during checkout, your order will be waiting for you (at our premises, check the Contact page to locate us) to collect between 9:30 and 10:30 on the morning of the delivery day. Please don't be late as we have to start our delivery tour afterwards!
What are my payment options?
You can pay online when you place you order, by bank transfer into our account (bank details will be sent to you after you have confirmed your order) or by card, or pay by cash at delivery. Choose your option during checkout.
What to do when I have my box?
First, check the state of your shellfish. It's normal to find that all the ice has melted down and this does not affect shellfish quality. Then, the earlier you cook your shellfish, the better they will taste! However, you can store them: remove from the box and place at the bottom of the fridge, under a damp (and clean!) cloth, for 1 to 2 days. Langoustine tails, lobster and crab claws can also be frozen.
